Walking on Air Valance Family Catherine Anderson Books
I read books for a living. I copy edit looking for errors in punctuation, spelling, reference mistakes etc. So when I want to relax and read for pleasure, I have ridiculously high standards. I want the characters to engage my interest from the first page to the last. I want to empathize with their trials and tribulations just as much as I want to cheer with their triumphs. You will find all of this and so much more in the pages of Walking on Air.Gabe won my heart when he wished his lady of the evening a "Merry Christmas" and handed her a five dollar gold piece and then left two more on her dresser to be found later. This happens on the first two pages, I don't want you to think I'm spoiling the story. This is a love story, a salvation story, a family values story, I'd even go so far as to say Walking on Air is "Holy Humor".
Find a comfortable chair, have a cold drink nearby, don't forget the box of tissues and be prepared to laugh out loud with joy. It was hard to put this down to do any work. I loved it. I did not want it to end. It was that good!

Walking on Air Valance Family Catherine Anderson Books Reviews
Catherine Anderson has done it again~~stolen my nights, my sleep, my thoughts~~and left me wishing the next book in this series was already ensconced on my . This is an expertly drawn historical romance with strong elements about faith, hope, and the endurance of love.
This story opens with murder, the murder of the Gabriel Valance, a gunslinger, having killed many during the course of his short life. Prone on a snowy boardwalk in Random, Colorado, his last cogent memory is seeing a beautiful 'Christmas Angel' standing in the candlelit window of her millinery shop across the street.
That's when fate intervenes. Now standing before the pearly gates (in this instance, a table in a crumbling shack), Gabriel is given an opportunity to live life over. He has a month to save a lost soul in Random, and is provided the names of three individuals who fit that bill. One of them is the milliner he glimpsed as he died Nan Sullivan. Gabe chooses her, and so begins the spiritual journey of a very bad man named Gabriel Valance.
Armed with information provided by the angels at the gates of heaven, Gabe is redeposited in Random, not only burdened with his responsibility toward Nan, but also with a host of rules by which he must abide. He knows, too, that at the end of his do-over-month, he will again die at the hands of his killer, his only hope for heaven being his successful redemption of Nan.
Nan Sullivan has secrets of her own. Believing she has murdered a despicable suitor, Nan is on the run. With her is her much younger sister, Laney, whom she passes off as her daughter. The two have been living successfully, however fearfully, in Random. But terror comes knocking when Gabriel Valance shows up on their doorstep, and he wants only one thing~~marriage with Nan.
During his month, Gabe finds it increasingly more difficult to abide by the rules the angels at the gates have mandated. Complicating the situation is the fact that he's fallen in love with Nan and her 'daughter', Laney. The idea that he's preordained to die again on Christmas Eve is almost more than he can bear.
This is a magnificent, heartwarming, heartbreaking story that had me laughing and crying, sometimes simultaneously. The characters are so well-drawn I keep hoping any or all of them will show up on my doorstep. The plot elements have kept me thinking about my own life, my own comfort zone, and how often I cast a blind eye on the circumstances of others.
Ms. Anderson has written a love story featuring the personal redemption of a very bad man.
We should all be so lucky.
Catherine Anderson has done it again. She is the master of historical romance, and this much anticipated new book doesn't disappoint. Gabriel Valance is probably my most favorite character she has created. Even with his very trying childhood, he is the ultimate optimist, accepting his fate as his due, and never blaming his faults on others,. He plays the part of the gunslinger because he fell into it, not because he wanted to. It seems that one of the lessons Anderson wanted to share was not to judge anyone before getting to know him or her first. Nan and her sister have escaped an impossible situation with an uncaring calculating father. She is wary of all men and is determined to live a life without their influence. It was a pleasure watching Gabe slowly peeling away Nan's preconceptions of himself by kindness and laughter. The novel also shows the beauty of family, whether or not the people are related to eachother.
My only criticism is that the premise was a little iffy--supernatural, divine intervention, call it what you may, but it was a bit of a stretch. However, at the end, it all came together and I understood the reasons why it was there.
If you want a heartwarming redemptive emotionally up lifting read, give this a try. You will enjoy it, guaranteed.,
This book was amazing!!! Set in 1880, Gabriel Valance is a gunslinger with nothing to live for. After being gunned down by an upstart gunslinger, Gabe wakes up to find himself at the gates of heaven ( which looks suspiciously like a run down shack) and two angels that guard the gate. He didn't live as a good man but neither was he bad, so the angels give him a second chance to better himself and earn his entrance into heaven. He's given a mission Gabe will return to earth for 30 days and in those days he's to save one of three lost souls in Random, Colorado. If he succeeds, he'll be allowed into heaven when he dies again at the end of the 30 days, if he fails, his soul is damned. Enter Nancy Sullivan, on the run for a murder she thought she committed and hiding her younger sister from their father by passing her off as her daughter, Nan has finally started to relax her guard when Gabe walks into her shop and uses the knowledge given to him by the angels to blackmail her into marrying him. He's suppose to make her fall in love with him and learn to trust him so when he dies at the end of the 30 days she will be able to move on to a more happy life with love and trust.
Now, I'll tell you right now, I cried, this book yanks at your heart strings and doesn't let go. Catherine Anderson is a pro at making the emotions real for the reader. I read this books in a few hours spread between two days, I could not put this book down. If you've read other Catherine Anderson books then you won't be disappointed. If you've never read one of her books then just know that you can't go wrong with any of her books. She is an auto buy for me and I'll continue to buy her books for as long as she continues to write.
